Medical Procedure Planning
Provide therapeutic support and planning for children and young people who may be experiencing anxiety, for medical procedures such as:
Blood tests and Cannula preparation
Mask wearing, including Nitrous Oxide preparation
COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs)
COVID-19 Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing
Dental appointments
MRI, X-Ray and CT Scan preparation
MRI Enterograph and barium esophagogram support
Use medical play to help the child or young person become more comfortable and familiar with some of the items which may be used in procedure.
Provide relaxation and distraction techniques to child, parent(s)/caregiver, to help them to support their child throughout the procedure.
Provide therapeutic support on the day of hospital admission or medical procedure, if deemed appropriate.
